Destination: Sault St. Marie, Soo Locks
Featured on St. Mary's Cruises
The Soo Locks have been an essential part of life in the area for over a hundred years. Originally built in 1855, the locks are still used for trade and tourism for Lake Huron, Lake Superior, and the St. Mary's River. Popular with many Great Lakes cruises, these United States-based locks are the largest in the country.

You can experience the Soo Locks with Soo Lock Boat Tours, which use smaller boats to take you on an immersive, up-close journey through the locks. These tours run from May and through the Summer.
On your journey with a Soo Locks cruise, you'll get to traverse the entirety of the waterway, including St. Mary's Rapids. The rapids feature a 21-foot height difference between the upper and lower parts of the river and have the quickest moving waters on the Soo Locks. You'll experience the same locks that historic ships have sailed over the years, making it the perfect place for anyone that likes history.
