Get to Know Boothbay Harbor
The small town of Boothbay Harbor, is only 9.22 square miles and has a population of roughly 3 thousand habitants. Its location at thee Gulf of Maine made this peninsula a key spot for some historical events and a popular port of call for Maine cruises.
The area was first occupied by Europeans British fishing station. A few families settled down in the 1600s, as Henry Curtis purchased the land from sachem Mowhotiwormet. In 1869, the peninsula became depopulated as a result of the King Williams War which took place in the Boothbay Harbor region. It remained unpopulated for approximately 40 years, until the Scots-Irish Presbyterians began to settle there. This new settlement re-incorporated the area and renamed it as Boothbay Harbor in 1842.
