Destination: Juneau, Alaska
Featured on Alaska Cruises
With a Juneau cruise, you'll have the chance to visit Alaska's capital city. Located just off the Gastineau Channel -- which separates Douglas Island from mainland Alaska -- the city of Juneau takes up parts on either side of the waterway. The channel is large enough that even big ships have no issue traveling it, ensuring many different cruises are able to visit the city.
A unique feature of Juneau is its lack of roads leading into or out of the city. This makes it only accessible by plane via the Juneau International Airport or with a boat by way of the Gastineau Channel. While a few expert-level mountaineers have hiked into the city, navigating its towering mountains, wildlife, and awe-inspiring natural features, we can't say we'd recommend it to the average person. Despite its seeming separation from the outside world, Juneau offers lots to do and is a modern city with great dining, museums, shops, and more.

Visit Nature with Your Juneau Cruise A major focus for those that take part in Juneau cruises is the nature. The city is a gateway to countless outdoor destinations, including the nearby Mount Roberts. This mountain features a tramway that takes visitors directly from the cruise ship docks and over the city to about halfway up the mountain. Popular with our Alaska cruise guests, the Mt. Roberts Tramway takes you on a steep incline up a total of 1,800 feet. Just outside of the city, you'll also find the famed Mendenhall Glacier, Tongass National Forest, and Glacier Bay National Park, each with miles upon miles of hiking trails, scenic overlooks, and other great parts to enjoy.
